Why Our German School

The German Language School of Union County is the oldest German language school in New Jersey. Founded in 1934, the school has provided high quality, affordable instruction in the German language to thousands of students over several generations. Our student body is diverse. Some students are first or second generation German-Americans. Other students are enrolled because their parents recognize that speaking a second language is a highly valued skill in today’s workforce.

We at the German Language School of Union County strive to maintain a tradition of excellence. The tuition is reasonable, the instructors are superb, and class size is small, allowing for maximum attention to each student’s needs.

Strong Academics

Our academic approach is unique among our fellow German schools. We address all four pillars of learning to maximize academic outcomes: reading and comprehension, writing, listening and understanding, and oral communication. Our students receive guidance in developing research based presentations, experience authentic content-based learning, and are exposed to a variety of cultural elements to enhance their German. Our levels of instruction build upon one another to facilitate continuous learning. Each student is closely monitored as we create a personalized language profile.

A Unique Program

We offer a multi-disciplinary program that incorporates the use of technology, music, and literature to supplement the core curriculum. Self-paced learning with teacher support and guidance is encouraged. As our students advance, they become eligible to undergo the German AP, A1, A2, DSD I, and DSD II examinations which serve to certify their knowledge of the German language. Our test preparation program allows students to succeed at these important assessments. Beyond academics, our school community offers many fun events throughout the year including Fasching, Martinstag, Christmas, Field Day, and Commencement celebrations.

Expand your child’s horizons by giving them the gift of a second language!
