Teachers: Elisabeth Oberhollenzer
DaF Track (German as a second language)
The teachers in these levels work very closely together in meeting our students’ needs and preparing them for the B1 and C1 DSD Language exams administered by the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad.
Level 4
Students are building upon the foundation established in previous classes. Clarity of speech is encouraged. The fundamentals of German grammar are strengthened. Authentic German media is used to enhance discussions and to present opinions. Analytical skills are developed with German literature and poetry. Students in this class work towards the third level (B1) of language competence. Students develop skills to actively read and summarize main points of various articles and essays, as well as to observe and analyze charts and graphics. Students learn to consolidate and revise grammar structures. Intercultural awareness is enhanced and group and class projects are used to deepen language competence.
Level 5
In this course, students work towards the C1 level of language competence. Students use a wide range of challenging, longer texts to grasp implicit meanings. Students progress from exploratory and descriptive use of language to critical analysis of current topics in written and oral form. The four core language skills, listening and reading comprehension, written expression, and oral expression are deepened by thorough grammar and vocabulary review, classroom and independent study, as well as interactive group and class projects.
