The Deutscher Club of Clark awards a three week summer trip to an eligible student whose parents or grandparents have been members for the last three years. The trip is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German, a national organization that sets the requirements for applicants. Students must have two years of German experience, be 16 – 18 years old, and be enrolled in high school. A chosen applicant can then select from one of five locations in Germany to live with a host family with a teenager of similar age. The student will attend the Gymnasium and take part in many activities and excursions. Last year’s winner among the Deutscher Club applicants was Erin Rotter of Linden High School. Erin shared her wonderful experience through a presentation at the Deutscher Club upon her return. The cost for the trip is $3,825 and the Deutscher Club Scholarship will contribute $3,000 towards this expense. Applications are available at the Deutscher Club of Clark.
